My parents were putting in the rest of the garden, so I helped them do that. I love playing in the dirt. Feeling the heat of the sun on my back, smelling the flowers. I love it. I also love stories I have to share with you when I hang out with my parents!
Here's one: My dad is growing an herb patch. He has basil, rosemary, a couple other things, and then a bit of thyme. The only thing with the thyme is that it is not thyme. Its a weed, only my dad doesn't know it. My mom knows. She knew it was a weed because we have a thousand of the same looking thing down in the garden. I thought this was hilarious. We decided we would let dad figure it out on his own, but only if we could have a little fun too. So we're weeding down in the garden, my mom pulls a weed, holds it up and says to my dad "Doesn't this look familiar?" A little later we were talking about how only one thyme seed sprouted. Hmm, strange. I told my dad he should take it down to our neighbor who is a plant guru, and see what she thinks. Of course he thought that was a great idea! Oh I would have loved to see her face when my dad held up a big huge weed to her. Later on, he was complaining again about his silly thyme plant and my mother couldn't hold it in any longer. She said so sweetly, "Honey, that's a weed." The look on my dad's face was priceless. He looked so defeated, yet he was smiling because he has a good sense of humor. Then he went and pulled his weed and threw it in the yard. But my mom and I weren't done poking fun at him. We made comments like, " Oh, we should go pick some thyme and put in our dinner" or "Hey, look there's some more thyme!" pointing to the same weeds in the garden. My poor dad. Stuck in a house full of women his whole life. Poor guy. Oh but you know he loves it.
Here's my dad's "thyme" plant.
How he ever thought a thyme plant
could get this big is beyond me.... Happy Fathers Day, Dad!!
I'll take your thyme in my spaghetti sauce any day!
Love you!

I cannot quit laughing! I can just see this whole thing unfolding! However, I am glad you guys decided to tell him, in case the "thyme" may have really been a poisonous weed!
Love you Kels, thanks for sharing the funny stories!
Hilarious. I can just see your dad's face. Good thing he has a good sense of humor. Tell him I had the same thing happen to me - not with thyme...just a plant I thought was going to be a flower but when it got about 18 inches high I realized it was a weed after all. Total bummer!
Hi Kelsey, I happened upon your blog after reading Stacey's blog. She's a friend of mine, her Q is in my John's class, and she & her munchkins were at my house playing this past Sunday. I think she is quite cool. I made buffalo wings for her and M. I think they liked them. Well, maybe M. did, and Stacey liked them because she didn't have to cook them. (:
I really enjoy your blog. I read some of your past posts and thought you must rock if you, indeed, like pickled beets, potstickers, and chocolate-covered raisins. Those are some of MY favorites. My mom makes pickled beets for me (I've never actually ever bought a pickled beet. Didn't know you COULD buy them, really.) And my John and I live on potstickers. Choc.-covered raisins are one reason why I'm so overweight. (:
Keep writing, sister. Keep nursing. I'm aching to know where in Montana you are. My husband is from Havre & Whitefish, and travels to Whitefish every 2 days with his railroad job. Where are you? Send the town's name to me in code, if you can. I could send you homemade pickled beets....

P.S. Did you ever babysit for my good friend Nancy, with her son Wyatt and baby girl Sophia?
