I'm Kelsy. I'm a nurse. I work the night shift on a crazy surgical unit and you would not believe the stuff that happens when sick people sleep. To hear more about that and other stories read on....

Writers Block

I have writers block for the first time since Freshman English when we had to write a summary of the book, “Watership Down.” I think that was the weirdest book I’ve ever read. I have plenty of things to write about, but they are all sad stories about my patients, and I can’t have all these sad stories on my blog or people will stop reading, so today, I’m going to tell you what I do on my days off……
On my first day off following 3- 12.5 hour shifts I sleep in. I know, crazy, huh? And this week, I stayed in my pajamas all day. I usually only do that when I'm sick. I vegged out all day, watched online tv and scrubbed my hardwood floors. They sparkle now!
On my second day off I try to plan something to force me to get out of the house. So this week, I took a little trip to the local outdoor clothing outlet to see if I could find any goods deals. The problem is outdoor clothing is expensive, even at the outlet, so I ended up only buying something for my nephew because children’s clothing is cheaper than big people clothing.
On the third day off, like today, I get outside. I went for a hike today…..much steeper than expected. I followed a 70-yr old looking man who hoofed it up the mountain like it was no big deal, while I huffed and puffed a couple hundred feet back. I blame it on the elevation, my lungs just aren’t used to it yet. Then, since I worked so hard on my hike, I stopped at Starbucks on the way home. I smiled the whole way through the drive-thru. I’ve been trying to hold out for Starbucks as long as I could, try to support local shops, but today was the perfect day, and it tasted so good, as did the doughnut I ate.
All in all, not too exciting. I know in time I’ll meet people and have friends to hang out with on my days off, but for now being alone for a few days after the busyness of working in a hectic atmosphere, it’s nice to have a little peace and tranquility on my own.

It all sounds fabulous! Especially the starbucks part. For a short time during my pregnancy I craved their old fashioned doughnuts. Good thing it was only a short time. Call me soon!
