Quite often in this career a box of chocolates is left at the front desk. Let me explain. When in a precarious situation, ie. being hospitalized, feeling cared for and taken care of, one can be led to extreme gratefulness, which then leads to the box of chocolates at the desk. You catch my drift?
So recently we've had a lot of chocolates left. It's always a good feeling, even if I never cared for the patient. It means something we're doing is touching that patient. So we get boxes of chocolates, cards, bags of candy, licorice, flowers, chocolate pringles(genious, right? You can't beat chocolate chips.). One time, this is my fav, a patient brought in a 24-pack of water bottles with a bunch of crystal light pacs. How creative is that? The candy thing is awesome and I'm not complaining, but at some point we nurses need to try that "healthy" thing. You know, stop smoking, practice what we preach, get fit. Okay, I'm getting side-tracked.
As many of you know, this girl has no issue with eating a lot of candy. As in, I eat a lot of candy. My mouth just likes it. Especially this time of year: Easter. Sweetart puts out these amazing jelly beans that are so full of flavor you can never just eat twenty of them. The other issue I have now is that I'm going to the dentist next week. I hate going there. I love that my lovely friend Karie(my hygienist) gets to work on my teeth, but I really hate the possibility of cavities. Obviously not enough to slow down on the candy, but enough to make me floss every night after I brush for two minutes.
Basically what I'm trying to say is this: Grateful patients are so appreciated because nurses love feeling appreciated, but I need to start working out and I'm going to look up what that word "moderation," means.

This made me laugh...especially the lines...my mouth just likes it...and...you can't eat just twenty of them...so TRUE!

First, your comment about flossing every night and brushing for two minutes made my heart happy :). Second, I need to hook you up with some xylitol candy - it's tooth friendly and delicious! I am sure it will not live up to your Sweet Tart jelly bean standard and I can just hear you making fun of me for suggesting this to you :), but it's worth a shot :). Oh and by the way, I got your message and will try to connect soon. We have had company with us for the past week so has been hard to find time to talk! Love you!!!!
I am not so sure moderation is needed~~ balance maybe (equal amounts of sweets and salty treats), but moderation sounds boring. Just keep flossing and enjoy the appreciaton!
